Before I start, I have to pose a question. How come ColourPop is spelt with Canadian Colour?
So I was watching a BuzzFeed Video (naturally), and they were watching ColourPop cosmetics. I have had friends who are in love with this brand, all of the BuzzFeed ladies seem to like it too. The only catch is, I heard you can get slammed as a Canadian with duties and shipping! Luckily for me, they were offering free international shipping for orders $50 USD and up. That’s like the frequent equivalent of $66 CAD. But I really wanted free shipping.
I was really confused though because they don’t charge you duties straight up. You have to wait for your order to arrive to figure out if the package Gods hate you or not. A lot of girls swore that orders under $100 did not get taxed, but others did. I was taking a gamble, but free shipping man!
I placed my order on March 15th, and eagerly checked my status on the package daily. It arrived March 22nd. Actually did not get charged with duties! woohoo.
I got the Good Times mini lip set. I love that I can pop the colours into my purse.
Colours are nice…but make my teeth look uber yellow..
I also bought 3 liquid lipsticks
The purple one is called 3-Way and it looks NOTHING like the image on the website.
If you look close enough, you’ll see that the purple one is cracked inside of the packaging. I had to basically send 5 emails because if you don’t send a NEW one, they will NEVER follow up with you after they have initially replied. They also refused to send me a new one even though their website police says that they will >> Instead, I got a ONE TIME ONLY refund.
I did get a gorgeous highlighter, but it doesn’t really show up on my skin tone.
My final assessment is that the packaging is great, and the product is pretty nice. However, I was pretty turned off by their customer service and the fact that they sent me a damaged product. The bigger issue for me was that they wouldn’t give me a replacement like their website states. I don’t think that I’m going to order from ColourPop again, because I kind of found the quality to be about the same as NYX Cosmetics. The formula feathers a lot more for the lipsticks, but the colour does hold. It’s a lot dryer than NYX too. Now that NYX is in Canada, I can go and swatch the items before a purchase and I don’t have to wait or worry about taxes and exchange rates.
I think this product rocks if you’re American, but not so much as a Canadian.
