Hong Kong Days 1-3: Princessing Around, China &; Tears

Tags:

The past four days have been the must luxurious days of my life. This is actually the reason why I did not want to stay more than a week in Hong Kong. Sometimes we can only be on cloud nine for so long until we remember that we are regular people who need to go back and start millions of volunteer jobs.

My very first actual day in Hong Kong my aunt took me on a whirl wind adventure. We went out for lunch at this cute little Italian Restaurant with my auntie’s high class lady friends their kids and I got to meet one of her friend’s niece! It was pretty cool because they were her Taiwanese friends and I was really missing me some Taiwanese <3

I just remember the lunch being really good. It was this delicious linguini carbonara with rich rich cheese and a yummy sauce. yumm.

So my aunt apparently knows half of Hong Kong. She took me for “a little bit” of shopping. I got to go to forever 21 and bought a bunch of cute clothes HEEHEE. So just a heads up, in Hong Kong since there is no taxes..go crazy. The shopping is also a lot nicer in forever 21 in Hong Kong. They just some how seem to carry much better stock. After hitting forever 21, (THEY ALSO HAVE A MUCH BETTER RETURN POLICY. NO STUPID EXCHANGE ONLY WITHIN 21 DAYS. IT IS A FULL REFUND/EXCHANGE IN 30 DAYS) my aunt walked me across to CHANEL <3 Actually we meant to go to Hollister but ended up at Chanel for make up instead. You see, my aunt had bought me as part of the new summer 2013 collection a beautiful green polish. I had then informed her I was eyeing that one as well as the blue and a blue mascara. When we went in, turns out my Aunt knows the sales associates very well! So I was able to get my make up done! YAY MAKE UP! I even got a beautiful eye shadow stick (perfect colour for blending with other eye shadows) and the blue eye nail polish! and..right before we left my aunt was like TAKE THE GLOSS TOO! Aiya. I even got some free samples for my skin (: The toner smells amazing by the way. I feel like it’s been working for me. Also, the make up artist mentioned I should just pluck the ends of eyebrows and I would have beautiful brows…

My aunt then led me to the Tom Ford counter. So…I seriously felt that my make up was done up too much so we waited for my aunt’s usual make up artist buddy but he didn’t show up so another one re-did my make up for me in a new pallete…I couldn’t see the mirror and she kept commenting on how large my eyes are (I have some irrationally alien eye balls for an asian girl) and how I looked like a doll…I think she some how forgot that I wasn’t a doll and WENT CRAZY ON THE MAKE UP! I had some serious purple lids! And of course, like every make up artist I have ever met with a mascara wand saw how long my lashes were and WENT CRAZY! I must be a really fun person to put make up on for Asian people..I swear, it looked like a doll’s make up and I mean..I was pretty sure it was darker than before when I came in..

When my aunt’s usual person came. He did her make up in a beautiful palette and it looked SO FAB! So..my aunt got me that pallette instead hahah! Oh man.I am one spoiled princess. I even  got a new foundation sample as well as an “iconic” perfume sample of their “Vanilla Tobacco”.

—urgh i want to show you my haul but wordpress won’t let me select any of my photos! WHAT IS UP WITH YOU BLOG?!

The night wasn’t even over after we went home for dinner. My aunt took me for a late night foot massage! It was so amazing because as you know, I have like a million and one mosquito bites and the massage lady actually helped me massage my legs to relieve the itch!

It was such a long and relaxing day.

So the next day I met up with my grand mother because she wanted to go to Shenzhen (sp?). Basically, it was a little bit annoying for all of us because I had to do so much stuff with immigration. If my grandmother hadn’t been there I would have been in line forever! Yes. I did abuse my grandmother 65+ age…

So basically right at the border is the world’s largest FAKE mall. My aunt said that the mall is a little bit like an illusion. You can’t tell what is real and what is fake hahaha. You know being in that mall though ( I DIDN’T BUY ANYTHING FAKE OKAY. THAT SHIT SCARES ME TOO MUCH). is that you really appreciate how hard they work. My grandma took me for an hour long neck, arm and head massage and you know how much I paid? I paid $5 Canadian. My aunt told me that for an hour they don’t even get to keep all of that money. They have to share it with the other guys. So yeah. When you complain about your minimum wage and your no tips. Think about that. Did I mention that Taiwanese minimum wage is 100 NT? That is $3 Canadian.

Basically at the end of the day we had some delicious chineese food. I will post pics when I am able to. So I can show you how delicious everything was! The Peking Duck! The GAILAN. OH MAN THE GAILAN. yummy crunch vegetables!

So today was also a shopping day. I got to visit the most beautiful ABERCROMBIE. <3 It basicaly is a smaller version of the New York one but with the  super super grand staircases. I was really bad and bought 3 things..but they were expensive. In the end though, I converted it back to Canadian and realized that was how much I would pay in Canada…WITHOUT TAXES. THERE ARE NO TAXES IN HK. So I got them…I know…bad girl. I thought it would be my biggest spend of the entire trip. However, I was wrong.

I went to UniQlo (sp?) with my aunt to buy shirts for my brother and dad! I WAS SO HAPPY BECAUSE I LOVE THEM SO MUCH AND I GOT TO PICK THEM ICE CLOTHES! I even paid for some of my cousins stuff to thank my aunt back for everything and because he is my cousin. I am his older cousin so I really should. But that wasn’t even my biggest purchase. Oh no.

Well, my aunt and I once again went to ANOTHER Italian restaurant and YUM. THERE WAS BREAD. WITH OLIVE OIL AND VINEGAR AND THIS BEAUTIFUL GARLIC AND ONION MIX. YUM YUM. YUM. I love crunchy veggies and warm bread with olive oil and balsamic. yumm. I should have been born Italian.

Well, afterwards. We went to get our nails done because my aunt wanted a manicure so I got my nails painted. We picked millions of colours….finally settled on some. MINE ARE ALREADY DENTED BTW. SO LIKE YEAH. NOT DRY THANK YOU VERY MUCH STUPID BLOW DRYER FOR 30 MINUTES. I only got my nails painted because I am really afraid of the tools and people pushing back my cuticle. The cuticle is a natural cover to prevent things from going into your nails. It is part of your body, so I don’t mess with stuff like that. That’s how infections happen. So while I was there, my aunt asked the manicurist if she knew any good beauty products for my skin since my parents had asked. She recommended this famous Chinese doctor near by…So of course we went. We were able to get an appointment by waiting because let’s be honest. They’re Asian. more people=more money. After seeing him and being like ALRIGHT BEAUTIFUL SKIN HERE I COME. (he said it will work for my ugly mosquito bite legs too! YAY). But when i saw the price tag. my heart FELL. I was in such shock that my aunt started to worry about me. I was quiet throught the entire 30 minute cab ride. I felt like the worst daughter in the world. My parents had spent so much to send me to Asia for my AIESEC internship and I had just spent x amount of dollars for my SKIN. I almost couldn’t face my mom when I face timed her. Actually, I almost started crying.

I have realized that I am REALLY REALLY lucky. My parents love me so much that they comforted me. They told me it was okay. That if it worked that was what was important. You know, We don’t ever realize how much we love our families until we are millions of miles away from them.

My grandmother really wants me to stay longer in HK but I found out that the weekend I am planning to go back is father’s day! I get to see my grandpa <3 I don’t ever want to miss those kind of holidays with him ever. I love my grandpa and my daddy so much. I want to celebrate their FATHERHOOD with them <3

You don’t ever realize how loved you are until you are ACTUALLY all alone. You know, sometimes we can be in a crowded room and feel lonely. But it is when we are actually physically alone do we realize how much have.

Love you to the moon and back family <3

Yours till’ my wallet magically sprouts a money tree,
