Packing Tips

Tags:

So, as the biggest princess of all (I am a very fortunate little princess) I’ve been to many places all over the world and I’ve been fortunate enough to have been on multiple trips through out my life. So I thought I would share my packing 101 with you lovely babies out there!

Being a picky little princess these tips have been worked out to minimize my packing time and to maximize my vacation time. That way, I never have to worry about forgetting to pack something for a trip.

1. Do your underwear math.

There is absolutely nothing worse than going on a trip only to realize that you are out of underwear. *dun dun dun* I mean this is very easy to avoid. You’ve just got to do your underwear math. Now there is no real formula to doing your underwear math but there is an absolute rule of thumb. You must ALWAYS pack one per every night that you are staying and depending on how long your trip actually is, you bring additional undies accordingly.

So let’s say that your your trip is a weekend trip, bring at least 1 extra pair of those tighty whities. If you have a weeks work I would say 3 extra undies will do the trick. Judge accordingly if longer.

So it may seem crazy to have to pack extra undies but YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN. Hey let’s say you hit the bar a bit too much and you peepee a bit in your little number down there, *doot doota doot!* it’s extra undie to the rescue! Or even if you weren’t the one who’s been hitting the bar too much and it’s your party-girl bestie, watch out for her when she sloshes her next martini on you.

Some may argue that they will wash their undies while traveling. HAHAHA. NO. Okay, so God Bless those of you who are cute enough to attempt this. The truth is, this won’t work for EVERY trip. If you are travelling on a tour bus you will be changing your hotel room almost ever night, this means that your clothes/undies may or may not have time to dry! Also, although using regular body soap may seem like a good idea to wash your clothes the reality is it may not be a comfortable undie without being washed properly…know what that means? It means you will be grossly picking your privates for the whole day you are wearing them!

2. Check the Weather

Always go on-line to check the weather of the place you’re visiting. This let’s you pick out all of your cute outfits! This is of course helpful when you’re visiting a place that you’ve never been! (DUHHHH!!!) Bust out those short shorts for the Caribbean and fluff out that parka for Antarctica! PLUS! if you’re going to a hot place, you can bring more OUTFITS!! Smaller clothing=more clothing to be packed ; )

3. Toiletries Bag

I do not care if you are a boy or a girl. BOYS, suck it up and buy yourself a sexy little toiletries bag. I mean…I think they make man bags…

But anyhoo, the toiletries bag is super important because you can pre-pack half of your stuff first. Leave whatever you need in the morning (face-wash  for clean faces–> if you do not wash your face I do not think we can be friends. that’s gross.<– toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.) and pack it into the toiletries bag on the way out. Just to make sure you don’t forget anything, write a check list and stick it to your bathroom wall with a pen next to that little sucker to satisfyingly scratch it out when you BAM pack something in to that bootiful toiletries bag!

General rule for make up: if you have make up brushes, you really do want to bring make up brush cleaner especially if you’re going to be using them very often for a long time. I mean seriously, bacteria can grow on those brushes and you do not want that shit infecting your face right? Oh and let’s not forget to bring make up remover, because you do not want that gunking up your pores. Yes, make up now has been engineered to feel like nothing on your skin and to be better to let your skin breathe. But it is still make up! That stuff is not supposed to be on your face in the first place, people just make that stuff up so we could hide our ugliness (well I mean I should be promoting inner beauty but heck I’ve got stuff I masterly hide with make up too!) and it should not be left on your face especially anything near your eye, like eyeliner, and mascara especially. Your eyes are an opening to your insides and can easily become infected (side note. do not share your make up unless you are CLEANING THEM. You never know if someone has an infection or not, the effects may not even have shown up yet but the bacteria is still there) so you have to be careful not to leave that stuff on! Always, always remove your mascara, if you leave that on long enough, it will suffocate your lases and they will fall off (THIS IS FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE). My sister warned me and because I kept forgetting to remove my mascara when I first started wearing it and I actually noticed my eyelashes were falling out. ):

If you travel often, invest in a toothbrush cap! Why? Well think about it, when those cleaning ladies or cleaning men in those hotels come around and clean your toilet…who knows if water from that dirty towel splashes onto your toothbrush..mmm. toilet water. And it’s also good for packing so your toothbrush doesn’t brush the contents of your toiletries bag. It’s like a hygienic thing kiddies.

tweezers and nail clippers! Seriously, what if you get a narly hangnail? Or need to pluck an unsightly hair? Always good for precautions.

4. Shampoo, Conditioner and Soap

If you’re as much as a princess as me, you NEED all three of these (especially the conditioner. Who wants non-silky hair?) with you on the go. Of course you could use the hotel ones, but wouldn’t you much rather be using your own? Welp, I would definitely suggest buying those toiletries bottles for shampoo! You can get them from shopper’s drug mart for sure. All you’ve got to do is empty your nice smelling products in there and you’re good to go.

If you’re superbly lazy, go to bath and body works and buy a travel sized shampoo bottle, soap and matching lotion. I’m pretty sure it’s like 3 for $10. (: yayyyy, smells like a good deal ; ) You just might have to pack your own conditioner that’s all.

5. Snacks!

Bring snacks in your suit case because chances are you will get super hungry and not want to spend any extra cash and sometimes if it’s too late out and you’re starving, you won’t have the comforts of your kitchen at home to satisfy that hunger. PLUS! Make it a habit to actually eat all of your snacks!!!! That way you can actually bring back more things from wherever you’re going because you get to free up space in your suitcase!

6. Pillowcase

I learned this one the hard way. I once had to sleep on the smelliest pillow in like history at a hotel! It smelt like smoke. Like some guy just decided, it would be a smart idea to smoke with a pillow in front of his face. Disgusting. That started to make me realize that pillows are hard to clean without ruining their fluffiness, so how clean are the pillows really?! Unless you’re able to pack your own pillow which I highly doubt because that shit is really just going to take up wasted space in your suitcase just bring a pillowcase to save yourself all of that. I don’t even encase the pillows at the hotel with my pillowcase, I just lay it on top, that way I can fold the dirty side that touched the pillow inside and keep the clean side outside that way you know which side you slept on.

7. Big Garbage Bag (Try to get the clear Gardening Ones)

Put your dirty laundry into this. If I have to explain this theory to you I think you are seriously a very gross person. Remind me not to hug you. like. ever.

I will however explain CLEAR garbage bags. If your suitcase needs to be searched at customs, most of the time they won’t take the time to really open the bag a normal persons way. They will just take a knife to it and bam! that $200 blouse is gone forever. And plus an actual garbage bag looks a lot like you might have brought a dead body across the border.

Welp. Those are my big packing tips…paragraphs. (: I hope you guys enjoyed that. I’ll add some more packing tips later. The next time I go travel, I’ll take a photo of just how I pack my suitcase (:

Yours till you leave on vacation,
