Day 14, 15,16,17,18: Sway, Sian, Shiok

Tags:

So let’s hope that I spelt all of those correctly. We are going to try something different. I am going to categorize what happened in the past few days in terms of the three Singlish words that I have learned. Ready? Set? Go!

Sway: Unlucky

I first came across this term last Wednesday when I met up with my AIESEC buddy and my new Singaporean friend Ben. I was basically telling them how unlucky I had been when all of a sudden (and in unision), the two went “AHHH! Sway!” You can imagine that my reaction was somewhat like O.O

However, I have learned to use this term a lot now because I AM ONE SUPER UNLUCKY PRINCESS. So let’s recap what was just so Sway about the past few days.

1) You are probably wondering WHY I HAVEN’T BEEN POSTING FOR LIKE 6 DAYS! Well with my luck, of course I heard sad news and then my laptop died. It just went Lights Out. The charger wouldn’t charge it properly and I started to believe that if your laptop cannot turn on something is amiss. I actually did the whole freak out dance. (Don’t look at me that way, you know EXACTLY what I am talking about) It starts with you being extremely calm because you must not have pressed the power button hard enough. You try again, and your heart starts slightly racing when it still doesn’t respond. Pretty quickly you find your pupils dilating and your heart is racing and PLAY SOME MUSIC BECAUSE WE ARE ABOUT TO DANCE! You dance around your room and jump up and down because the adrenaline is rushing and you are about to kick…KICK THAT LAPTOP ACROSS THE ROOM! I did however realize that it was my plug that was simple not sticking into the socket..no matter which socket i tried at home..So I had to tactfully force the plug upwards so that gravity would force that sucker in.

2) Heard some super terrible news. But that’s alright, we are moving on in life because (I believe I saw this on tumblr) I once posted on my fb status “Dear God, thank you for this beautiful life, and forgive me if I don’t love it enough.” So there we go.

3) I got sick. Yes, I GOT SICK. I started burning up some severe type of fever, and then had to interview at 8 am the next morning meaning I had to wake up at like 7 am the next morning. But of course my laptop wasn’t working so luckily Daro lent me hers to use. The interview did not go very well I do not think. Well let’s be honest, the night before I couldn’t sleep because my head felt like it was in a vice and like hot magma was being poured over it. I haven’t been able to sleep for the past 2 nights. I had a fever for 2 nights and now I am currently in the process of a severe cold.

Told you it’s been Sway.

Sian: Used in terms of something negative

1) MY GIRL LERIZZE LEFT BACK HOME TO THE PHILIPINES. I am sooo sad right now! My home stay momma threw us an awesome potluck farewell party at my house! SO MANY PEOPLE CAME! we had so much food! And FINALLY I was able to try grandma’s super delicious spring rolls! YUMMY. Not only that , but the noodle CEO man came to take almost a family like photo with us! Hahaha. I do not want to talk too much about Lerizze’s farewell party because I might actually cry. Although I do want to point out, I got sick again for parts of it because I had realized that I hadn’t really eaten anything all day so when I did eat it all came up. literally.

Since I knew the first week that I met Lerizze that she would be leaving before the rest of us, I snuck into a store to get something that she really wanted but thought was too pricey while Min “Photo-distracted” her! HAHAH. WE REALLY ARE AWESOMETASTIC FRIENDS.

2) I never got to go to out of Taipei this weekend because I got sick. Okay, I even bought the stupid train ticket. and I couldn’t go. I am still sick right now which is why this blog sucks a little bit today

3) I haven’t been able to really figure out my plane tickets and travelling because of the whole stupid my laptop is broken thing.

Shiok: Used in terms of something Positive!

1) I GOT MY LAPTOP TO WORK

2) I had such an amazing dinner with my friend Ben from Singapore the other day in which I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO LOCATE A BOWL OF CONGEE! Okay, so what is up with the people in Taiwan and their lack of wanting to eat congee. and How was I able to find this congee? because we found a HONG KONG RESTAURANT YAYYYY! THE FOOD WAS SOOO GOOOD! Even though Ben was like severely hung over from the day before we still went out and got some hk barbecue duck rice! YAYY and we shared the congee.

It was actually really awesome. We got to really take the time to get to know each other! YAYY! I even got to visit his beautiful hostel that really looked like a beautiful hotel. WINNING.

3) I got to have a jam night with Ben and Anky <3 That same night Anky came to find us after dinner since he had school and it turns out we were legitimately a few steps from his house HAHAHA. I got to have a small jam session with them! It was just too awesome because I SUCKED UP THE PLACE but the boys are like talent in Asian bodies. Ben turns out to be a freaking GUITAR teacher so yeah, he was really awesome. Anky was really humble but he plays like a pro too. Did I also mention that they are in the biggest bromance ever? Like, I am a little bit intimidated and sometimes I feel like a third wheel. They are pretty much a couple.

But it was really fun spending time with them. I called it Anky’s AIESEC Buddies date! They are really really good guys and super awesome to hang out with (: I am really blessed to have met these two cutie pies!

4) Tamsui & Soul Searching

So I had already been to Tamsui and so did Ben but we went back anyway to get some souvenirs for our friends. It was really different going around this time because we got to take it easy and do a little bit of soul searching. It was actually super relaxing and fun. We just kind of sat on the dock and watched old men trying to catch fish! We talked for a bit and Ben taught me some more singlish. We just had a good chill day and I appreciated that a lot. I really needed that to enjoy my stay a bit more. Afterwards we parted ways for me to go to Shilin Night market. And yes, the food was good and yes, it did make me sick again. So what am I really trying to tell you? I have the weakest immune system in the world.

5) I wanted to make this part a thing on it’s very very own. My AIESEC Buddy Sign. So I just wanted to say how totally sweet and awesome my sign is. So apparently Anky has been tactfully carrying it around in his laptop case for the past few weeks. I didn’t even know that he made me one because he was late picking me up from the airport! But when I actually got to see it, I was so happy. It was SO cute! I mean, for a guy to make that I was superbly impressed! It actually has a little burn hole because the electricity went out at his university and he had to light a match to finish it. Cutest story ever!

So, in the past few days it has been very sway, with a touch of sian and a whole lot of shiok. I love you guys <3

Yours till my throat starts to feel okay,
