Nailed It or Failed It?: Marble Nails
The latest nail trend is #MarbleNails so I thought that I would give it a try to see if it was worth all of the fuss, or should I just go to a salon? KIDDING. I’m a poor. I can’t afford getting my nails done. I watched some YouTube videos:
1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh5tRF03cak
2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apWXxQrhBD4
So it all starts with a white base coat. Don’t be dumb like me. Please get a Thick white nail polish that you know is extremely saturated. I used China Glaze’s Moonlight 622. Unfortunately, I’m not the most patient person, so waiting for these nails to dry was insane for me. I kept screwing up and had to redo them!! It didn’t help that I needed a bajillion layers. Moonlight actually isn’t white… it’s like an eggshell beige. I was too lazy and cheap to go out and buy a new white…buy a new white.
To do the nails you have to grab a container for mixing the polish and a cup for the water marbling. I tried to look for a plastic or paper cup and maybe a plastic or styrofoam plate or container. Then I realized that I could just cut a water bottle in half! You also need some cling wrap for some light marbling.
The tutorials ask you to use grey. Again, poor! I had black, I had moonlight. TADA! made my own grey. I just cut the bottom half of the water bottle in half and mixed some polish up with a toothpick.
Take the cling wrap. Scrunch it up into a ball and dab it into the “grey” polish. Dab onto your fingernails that have already been painted white.
As you can see, some of them have little grey flecks..and some just don’t look good!
Now we move onto the water marbling portion. After your nails have dried, tape them up on the sides. Water marbling is messy, so scotch tape is just fine. Some people used fancy liquid latex. This is the cheap version. If you don’t have scotch tape at home… you don’t have a grip on house essentials.
I failed horribly at the water marbling part. It just didn’t work out for me. Fill the cup up with warm water, and then drop drops of polish that you want to use for the marbling. I used a sparkly gold colour. I think I need to watch more videos for this particular section. After you’ve prepped the water and the polish has dropped in, spray with hairspray to disperse the polish.
I used my mini hair spray for this party. The packaging is different now…this is super old hair spray, but it was all that I could find at the time. I’m starting to realize that I did not prep as much as I thought I had.
I told you that marble nails are messy! After you’ve sprayed the hair spray, dunk those nails in and watch as the polish hugs your nails. Take out, and let dry.
Remove your tape and apply a layer of top coat.
So, Nailed It or Failed It?
I’d give this half and half. From far away it looks like I totally Nailed It! From close up? Definitely Failed It.
Thanks for reading my Little Pickies. Try out these nails yourself and tell me if you #NailedIt or #FailedIt
