Taiwan Day 10 & 11: Parties, Last Minute Shopping Finds & Singing at the Zoo

Tags:

It was such an awkward day. As I was crossing the street walking home I heard a kid who was maybe in either Grade 5 or 6 say to me “Oh my, You are so sexy” WHAT THE HECK?! I turned around and he was giving me BEDROOM EYES o.o It was SO WEIRD. I kept looking away and I am pretty sure his friends were telling him in rushed and panicked mandarin “OH MY GOODNESS. STOP IT! SHE IS THE VOLUNTEER!” and this kid just kept on staring at me…yup.

After school we WENT TO MY FAVOURITE PLACE IN TAIPEI! THE ZOO! Lerizze took a photo of my outfit and the girls expressed that I looked too fancy to be going to the zoo (haha! but as Coco Chanel said, what if today is your date with fate? I would never want to greet fate dressed like a slob)

I took so many videos while we were at the zoo and in every one, I am singing…ABOUT THE ANIMALS! My favourite one though is the one that Papa Kwong inspired. I took a video of a hippo and I was singing the hippopotamus for Christmas song. One of my favourite photos was the one that we took when I had realize that my dress was pink and black so I posed as a flamingo with the flamingos! You can barely spot me, I blend right in!

We later went to find the PANDAS! Too bad they were both sleeping ): Such lazy fluff balls. We did get a bunch of souvenirs for our friends though. SO MANY CUTE PANDA THINGS! YAYY PANDAS!

Afterwards, we tried to go to the Gondola but when we got there it started raining! They had closed the Gondola down because of threat of thunderstorm. We were so sad! So instead we headed over to do some shopping.

We were going to the AIESEC party the next day and I knew that I needed an important element, a HAND BAG! OH NO. It was really terrible looking for one! We ran around to Shinden (sp?) It’s not really a night market but more like a mini shopping district. The worst part was that we major failed! there is apparently an amazing bag store that Daro bought her bag at last week BUT WE COULDN’T FIND IT. We literally ran around the entire place only to find out that the store was CLOSED UNTIL THE DAY AFTER THE PARTY. (Because, you know; that is really helpful) Lerizze and I were so sad because she was eyeing a bag there and I needed a new bag! GRRRR.

In the end we walked all the way back to the MRT where we had seen a super cute store called “OMG”->Oh My Girl. It was so funny because on the way back I had expressed my enthusiasm to rip apart my dress and sew it into a purse.(This is the same dress I got the other day for $5.10 Canadian Dollars) but the girls were offering to pay me $5 to not rip the dress apart. BUT I NEEDED A PURSE SO BADLY! Luckily, at Oh My Girl I found the cutest bag for less than $15 Canadian! It was PERFECT! It has some snake detailing on the flap  in white and the rest is black. It has attachable/detachable straps to make it into an over the shoulder bag, a wristlet or a simple clutch. YAY! This was the best last minute shopping find.

We started Day 11 with a very full schedule of teaching Gr 6 six classes about our culture. The kids were so well behaved too! It was really awesome because they were actually genuinely interested! Being From Canada I don’t really think that there are many things interesting about our Country.. UNTIL! I found one of the best Canadian Videos of all time!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cotGh4Lu29M

This video makes you so proud to be Canadian. Every time I watch this video, it makes me miss home so badly! Although I am not the adventurous type and this video shows all of the extreme sports that you can do in Canada, I love how the Canadian landscape is included. It makes you feel almost trapped in such a crowded small city like Taipei. I really do think that this video shows what it means to be Canadian. Although I wish it featured more of how multicultural we are! It was pretty cool doing the presentations because the Gr 6s have much better English than the younger students. So they actually have so many more questions to ask us! It was pretty awesome being able to answer questions about where the best place to go snowboarding is ESPESCIALLY when I AM SO UNCORDINATED! (AWESOME)

After school, we did the girliest thing ever and trekked to Daro’s house with all of our clothes and make up. We all went to get ready! I helped the girls do all of the make up, but we couldn’t try the eyelashes because the glue that we bought didn’t work…oh well. We all have naturally beautiful lashes anyway ; )

Lerizze kept stressing out about her outfit until Min showed up and LITERALLY gave her the SHIRT OFF HER BACK! hahaha, IT WAS TOO CUTE <3 You girls are so fashionable!

It was really awkward getting ready because I felt like maybe I was too dressed up! THE FIRST THING DARO SAID TO ME WHEN I SHOWED HER HOW I LOOKED LIKE WAS ” I like your boobs.” HAHAHAH DARO! Soo cute. I did feel pretty fabulous though when I shared my secret with Lerizze about wearing a slip and it felt super awesome for her to tell me I had a good figure! (WIN FOR ME as I usually look like a potato). We were running late so we rushed to the station by taxi (EXPENSIVE, The taxi driver was a bit confused and there was traffic). We waited there and found out that it is normal for Taiwanese people to be late…we kept waiting…and waiting….until we learned through a phone call that WE WERE AT THE WRONG STATION! SO WE HAD TO PAY AGAIN TO GET ONTO THE MRT TO TAKE ONE STOP OVER GRRR. However when we got there, it wasn’t too far of a walk to the party.

The party was pretty fun actually! There were a few drinks (I didn’t really drink because I am not the party type) and a few snacks as well. Although at the beginning of the party one of the guys at the party kept trying to talk to me…and was trying to show me how he could speak canto…then started asking me if I liked to drink beer in Canto…Then started complementing my city…the girls had to come save me because it was so awkward and my AIESEC buddy was late so he wasn’t there to save me either (thanks a lot man). Luckily, the party was small so I could find my friends and stick to them. He was able to find another girl to talk to in the end anyway. SO YAY!

–>How come only weird people ever want to talk to me? 5th Graders and guys who can’t see when a girl is not interested. <–

I actually spent most of the night talking to my AIESEC Buddy who was so awesome and sweet to spend his time entertaining me along with my new friend Ben from Singapore! YAY. I was so happy to find out that Ben can speak canto because even though my canto is TERRIBLE, I really miss speaking it. It was really fun to have a buddy to speak to! Although Ben pointed out that he and Anky (my AIESEC buddy) could bad mouth me in Mandarin and we could bad mouth Anky in Canto but no one can bad mouth Ben…what a sneaky person.

It was actually so much fun because I don’t get to see Anky often and I finally had a chance to really get to know him. I am really happy that I decided to go! Originally none of us were sure if we were going to attend anymore but Anky convinced me to go and I am so glad that I did. If I hadn’t gone, I wouldn’t have been able to make such great friends in Ben and Anky.

The night was actually pretty short, but I was glad it was over especially since my feet were hurting so much from those high but beautiful white heels (according to Diana, Daro’s Homestay Mommy) I had bought here. Anky was a really awesome buddy for us and attempted to walk us to the MRT station only to realize that it would be cheaper and faster for us to go to the bus stop. When we got there we just kept waiting for the bus…and waiting…Anky even checked his APP but no bus…SO WE ENDED UP TAKING ANOTHER TAXI. This time though, we got a super sweet taxi driver and we had Anky to translate for us, so we got right infront of our house for a lot cheaper than what we paid before. YAYY.

When we got home, I took a quick shower without washing my hair (it felt pretty gross for me, but I was so tired). Since Lerizze doesn’t have her own bedroom at her homestay we decided to let her sleep in Daro’s room while Min, Daro and I attempted to sleep on the couch together! HAHAH. half way through the night Daro and I woke up and looked at each other and went…where’s min? We ended up just falling back asleep (it turns out Min had migrated to the massage chair hahaha!)

Such a wonderful time in Taiwan so far. I’m having so much fun with my friends. I love them so much. <3
