Singapore How many Days Was I there?: Lazy Days, Self Adventures & Romantic River Cruises

Tags:

I believe my last (four?) days in Singapore were truly relaxing and incredibly humid. Having never been to Singapore before, I was not prepared for the immense humidity that was Singapore. This humidity makes you not want to do anything which was perfect because eventually every princess needs a little bit of pampering right?

So I spent my Tuesday staying in watching “the artist”. For those of you who have the already watched this oscar winning movie, I applaud you. For those of you who haven’t, this will contain spoilers. So do not read this. I am not even offering you the chance to just read the spoilers because you have “decided” that you will not watch this movie. You shall, and you will watch this movie.

I cried watching. For some reason it made me realize why I am usually the person who asks my friends if they are okay first. It is because I enjoy reading facial expressions. Since the movie is a silent film I really enjoyed the slight over acting and the way it allowed you to read their expressions. Doesn’t it make you wish that every one was like that? It would make life so much easier if we could just simply read everyone’s expressions. We wouldn’t have to guess at what people are thinking all of the time because we would just automatically know. I think it is a special thing though, being able to read someone’s mind. It keeps things special and a live. There is a reason why I actually hate to talk through texts, or msn (I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS DIED), FB, or skype chat. I need to see your face. It let’s me read your expressions. To be honest, words are slightly empty. Reading this, how have you all imagined me? Sitting in a Parisian cafe typing all of this out to you? Sitting on top of a tree somewhere exotic? Do I have long hair? Do I have short hair? The way I write my blog creates an image for you.

But speaking to someone face to face, it means so much more.

Back on to more cute business. THE DOG. He is the best acting dog I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. I actually spent most of the movie worrying that he would die. They just kept rolling on the years and the years and a dog usually lives 10 years. It got so depressing that there was a point where I began to implant into my head “IF THE DOG DIES NOW I AM WALKING OUT OF THIS MOVIE FOR GOOD”. But yay! he did not! the lovable pup was there to stay.

There is something superbly brilliantly beautiful about the artist. Not just the acting, but the story line of a love that goes past age and time. Even though he is married, and she is so much younger, they have their own “dance of love”. She wants to take care of him because she loves him. Even the driver; Clifton. Even though he hasn’t been paid for a year. He continues to go back to help him. Even after he fires him to let him find a new job. HE WAITS OUTSIDE OF HIS HOUSE FOR DAYS. This is not even just love, this is friendship. True, true undying loving friendship. This is the kind of friendship I always try to hold myself to. If you need me, I will work for you for a year without pay because you are my best friend. and I love you. OKAY ENOUGH ABOUT THE ARTIST OR I WILL GET ALL PHILOSOPHICAL and that is NOT why you are here!

That evening, Ben took my sister and I to this restaurant famous for some kind of braised beef rib, peppery soup. It was so yummy. SO PEPPERY. BUT SO FREAKING YUMMY.

URGH. I am so sorry, someone had asked me to post more pictures but for some reason my laptop won’t respond today. sighs. I AM SORRY </3

I finished all of mine. I don’t even think Ben finished all of his rice and soup together. *WINNING

Afterwards Ben took us on a “romantic” cruise along the quay. It really was beautiful. BUT PSH. This was not the first time he had taken people on this exact “date” WHAT a pimp. I kid. He had taken his host family from Taiwan there as well as one of the AIESEC VPs. He also informed me he was going to take An Kai on this exact “date”. Very cute. Bromance to the max. Although, I think An Kai might become terrified and uncomfortable when he realizes it is just two dudes on a romantic river cruise.

I REALLY WISH I COULD POST PICTURES RIGHT NOW. IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. Words cannot describe it so I would have to post a picture. I promise to post pictures in the next few days when my laptop decides it likes me again.

I even got to go to the FLAGSHIP LV ON A FLOATING ISLAND THING. Yes, yes I would find the flagship LV. It was beautiful and grand and I wanted everything in it. Yes, I am such a princess.

Afterwards, we got to watch an awesome light show and my sister had to leave early for work so Ben and I sat and chilled and talked about life a little bit. You know, the usual bro hang out minus drinking and wings. (Oh wait then this isn’t an official bro hang out). Ben showed me the super awesome helix bridge and I got to walk along it and take some super pretty photos. Afterwards, we had to “walk” to a “place” to hail a cab. Yes, in Singapore there are designated areas to hail a cab….Sian. So inconvenient. Singapore is also a mega city a little bit like Toronto where nothing is near the subway station, our stops are so far away that you have to either take a second bus or walk for miles. So hailing and finding a cab can be pretty scary. Although the uncle that I got as my taxi driver was SO CUTE AND SWEET. He was actually afraid for me when he found out I was Canadian because what if the polar bears attacked me? He was just such a sweet man <3

But during my talk with Ben I had learned something else. He had told me the importance of going adventuring by myself. So what did I do? The very next day I went to Sentosa by myself. Now Sentosa is a man made island and a HUGE tourist attraction. I was there on a Wednesday and it was busy! I really wanted to go though because all I really wanted out of my life was to see the world’s largest aquarium. It would have been super lovely if it hadn’t been for the millions of tourists already inside! It was almost impossible to see everything! It wasn’t exactly like my super awesome experience in the Barcelona Aquarium in which I got to see the entire place with just my family because well..we had gotten in exactly one hour before closing! YAY! so the place was completely empty besides me and the fish! (I will post some gorgeous photos soon of the Singaporean aquarium!)

After the aquarium, I wanted to find lunch. But since I was on the “resort” side of the island I wasn’t able to find ANYTHING CHEAP AND THE MCDICKS was “opening soon” So I treated myself to the hard rock cafe. Yumm. It was actually pretty freaking awesome. After my super yummy lunch, when I was paying the waiter asked me where I was from. Because apparently…my “accent” confused him. OKAY. YOU ARE THE ONE WITH THE ACCENT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. But, he was super nice so hahah (:

Afterwards I headed out to see the Merlion. For those of you who are thinking of coming to sentosa. You can take this cute little monorail around the island. You just need to pay four dollars. That’s it! So you can ride the monorail all day with that and keep hopping on and off. At each “station” there is a place to buy tickets. Don’t buy at Vivo City where the monorail starts because the line will be killer. Go to the next stop and buy them. You can buy a lot of tickets in packages too and the line up won’t be so big as at the actual attractions. It saves you a lot of time. They are a little bit slow, but if you greet auntie or uncle with a smile you are in with them!

*In Singapore they greet elderly people as uncle and auntie so when you are ordering food or in a taxi start by greeting them as so. This was why the taxi driver was so nice and sweet to me. He thought I was Singaporean…you know..until I started talking.

So seeing the Merlion was pretty cool! There is this kind of waterfall that leads from it down a path and it tells you to dip your fingers into it to feel the chi. Umm.. I felt the water..

Anyway, I walked up this path that it told me to take about an adventure and finding these “symbols” The symbols just represented escalators..so I eventually gave up AFTER TAKING PICTURES HOLDING BIRDS IN MY FREAKING HANDS! The parrots were so colourful and I really felt like snuggling them…!

Alrighties, but on my way to the biggest Merlion in Singapore (there are 3!) It is pretty cute because for $8 you get to walk in and it’s a little bit like a kid’s museum and then you get to watch this show that teaches you about the history of the Merlion. You even receive a coin at the beginning for a “special” gift. After the mini film, you get to head up an elevator to the Merlion’s Mouth observatory..You don’t really get to observe too much because you have to take a picture instead haha. I was also not allowed to the head observatory because when I got to the mouth observatory IT WAS RAINING! Like, seriously pouring rain and I had forgotten my umbrella! To sum it all up, I got stuck inside of the Merlion for an hour. Yes, I was stuck in that place for an hour. It’s not like they weren’t selling umbrellas or rain ponchos. I just couldn’t rationalize spending $2 on a disposable rain poncho. They could have just given me a garbage bag. I was literally less than a km away from the monorail station. I also really didn’t want a $9 Sentosa umbrella. So I waited, and I even tried to read my kindle because I had remembered it! TOO BAD I HADN’T REMEMBERED TO CHARGE IT. So what is the moral of the story here?

You can go and have fun but these are trials and tribulations of travelling by yourself. Even if it is a to a man made island resort. You simply have to be prepared. If I was there with another person, maybe they would have an extra umbrella in their bag or maybe we could have passed the time making out talking. It would have been much more entertaining than sitting there dozing off for an hour. I mean. There was actually a water fall infront of the door. I thought it was on purpose until I realized it was just raining that hard. However, I had to meet my sister for a movie at vivio city and get tickets since they have assigned seating in Singapore. So, I sucked it up because it didn’t look like the rain was going to let up and I bought the $9 Sentosa Umbrella. Oh my goodness. I was not pleased with myself espescially since I used it for like 5 minutes to walk to the mono rail.

Well, as I was saying. My sister and I ended upwatching the great Gatsby in the 3rd row. So, there are only 10 rows in the theatre. So the ticket aunti said 3rd row is still good, there are only 10 rows. She somewhat kind of not really lied. It was an okay seat. BUT MAN AFTER LIKE 2 HOURS  you FEEL IT. But I do think that seeing a movie in another country is a different expereince so totally go for it I say!

After the movie it was pretty late and even though my sister wanted to take me to a hoker (sp?) center they were closed. So we had McDonalds for dinner. DID YOU KNOW MC DONALDS IN ASIA SERVE CHICKEN WINGS. and they are not jut KFC they are like BEAUTIFULLY HOT AND CRISPY AND SALTY AND YUM YUM YUM. You can dip them into their delicious chilli garlic sauce that they only have in Singapore. DIP YOUR FRIES IN IT TOO! SOOO GOOD! McDonalds is also an experience country to country.

So. the next day. I was sleepy okay? I stayed in packed and watched REAL STEEL! It was sooo good! This movie almost made me cry. I mean the kid and dad get reunited, he starts boxing again and he has something to fight for. Isn’t that all we’re ever really looking for? Something to fight for? The movie was AMAZING. THAT is the real american dream ladies and gentleman.

After packing and having delicious lunchy lunch with my sister. At night time, we watched PITCH PERFECT! HAHAHAH. I have been listening to their music for a while and I am absolutely in love with it! I even learned the cup song before I left Singapore..like literally an hour before I left the house for the plane hHAHAHAHAH.

My sister LOVED IT! It really is great for people who love to sing because you end up singing a long. I love how the first time I watched it was in Taiwan with my “sisters” and then in Singapore with my SISTER <3 HAHAHA. For some reason I am able to quote it after one watch…that is an addicting movie!

i REALLY want to thank Gaya, Ben and of course my lovely beautiful sister who put up with me for those days and being such awesome people in general. <3 Thank you for making my SUPER HOT stay in Singapore so shiok. <3

Yours till’ I melt in Asia,

The Picky Princess
